I've been growing out my hair for more than a year now. I started with hair that was quite short and layered, but I now have about ten inches of hair below my neckline. I will let it go a little bit longer before I get it cut. I want to be sure there is easily ten inches.
Why?
Because Locks of Love needs at least that much at a time.
I was hoping the girls would go in with me on this, but so far, they aren't ready to do it. But after looking at the gallery of recipients, maybe they'll change their minds.

barb- I think they take any colours, it makes it more natural.
I donated 3 times, with trimming it took about 12 inches total. My hair was down past my waist, I could hardly stretch my arm out far enough to hold on to the end and hold it out (like how you rough-measure fabric by the yard, nose to fingertip). Over a year and 3 hair cuts, I got it down quite short. Good luck with your donation!
